Introduction
The Maurice Bishop International Airport (MBIA) and Lauriston Airport are Grenada's gateway to the world through air transportation. Keeping both airports operational is critical, and this Tropical Cyclone Emergency Plan outlines how the Grenada Airports Authority (GAA) prepares for, responds to, and recovers from tropical cyclone impacts.
Coverage
GAA is a statutory body empowered by the laws of Grenada and is responsible for ensuring airport accessibility. Because Grenada lies on the southern end of the Atlantic hurricane belt, a tropical cyclone can interrupt access and normal operations.
This plan provides coordinated actions before, during, and after a tropical cyclone to support an efficient and swift return to operations at both airports.
Purpose
Staff are expected to familiarize themselves with these procedures and execute them as outlined. Proper execution is intended to secure airport property and restore services with minimum delay.
Departments covered
The primary departments and units referenced in this plan are:
- Meteorology
- Air Traffic Services
- Maintenance
- Crash Fire and Rescue (CFR)
