Warning issued actions: Met Department

These are the actions required when a hurricane or storm watch/warning is issued.

Forecaster / Officer-in-Charge

  • Inform the Manager of Meteorology immediately once storm/hurricane warning conditions are established.
  • Inform the National Disaster Coordinator / National Disaster Management Agency immediately.
  • Disseminate warning information to the National Disaster Management Agency / Emergency Operations Centre.
  • Continue tracking the system and provide regular updates to relevant personnel.

Manager of Meteorology

  • Inform NEAC and the CEO after briefing by Forecaster / Officer-in-Charge.
  • Secure at least one meteorologist / forecaster and two assistants to support increased duty demand.
  • Provide weather briefings to EOC members at MBIA.
  • Have staff prepared to work extended hours if needed.
  • Make available foodstuff items identified for on-duty staff.
  • Request assignment of a 4x4 pick-up van to the Meteorological Office.
