Pre-season actions: General
By the last week of May each year, GAA should complete organizational readiness actions and verify preparedness through planning and exercises.
Annual planning and readiness
- Update the GAA Tropical Cyclone Plan annually by the last week of May.
- Conduct a tabletop exercise across departments to assess readiness for the upcoming season.
- Conduct MBIA and Lauriston facility inspections and execute remedial work where needed.
- Establish a non-perishable food basket list and supplier arrangement for activation when the first watch advisory is issued.
Damage and Needs Assessment (DANA) team
The DANA team is coordinated by the Maintenance Manager and reports to the General Manager as EOC Coordinator.
Team composition:
- Head, Plumbing division
- Head, Air Conditioning division
- Head, Electrical division
- Head, Building and Facility Maintenance
- Head, Mechanical division
- ECCAA technician
Additional support: Arrange UAV (drone) services to support initial assessment.
Administrative and logistics arrangements
- Managers and department heads should submit staff contact details and vehicle registration numbers to HR.
- Establish MOU with hardware store or lumberyard for rapid delivery of facility-securing materials under watch/warning conditions.
- Establish MOU with service station for fuel support for GAA and staff vehicles after cyclone passage.
- Arrange nearby accommodation for key staff and their families to support duty continuity during system passage.
Triggered briefing requirement
Whenever a tropical cyclone warrants a watch advisory for Grenada, the Meteorological Department should brief key staff and issue notifications to all departments.
